This beautiful piece comprises lots of carefully hand-cut paper butterflies. The paper is taken from an old french fashion paper, the base is that of aged paper, a warm tone against the black type. The butterflies are raised, at different levels, on entomology pins in a sphere shape above the pages of the book. Each butterfly is different and varies in size and design.
The wonderfully ornate frame is painted in a warm stone hue.
Dimensions: 33cm x 33cm x 10.5cm

... a journey travelling with a pencil, paper and a pair of scissors…
Each profile is intricately hand cut from carefully selected paper, focusing on recycling a medium that would otherwise be discarded and lost. Rebecca reshapes small details of colour, imagery and text into delicate silhouettes that are then re-sculptured and encased, thus transforming an everyday object into a piece of work that invites the viewer to see beyond its original source.
The reinvention of the art of entomology combined with a desire for arrangement means her work focuses on the assemblages of shapes with themes stemming from nature.
